Chapter Two: Learning a Name

Taking in a deep breath, Robin opened the door. An unexpected creature bounced on her, sending her back to her bed. The hit of her bed on the back of her head made her dizzy for a few seconds, but then her eyes went to the being now on top of her. Wagging its tail and sticking its tongue out much like a dog would, Robin almost thought it could be a dog, except it had the same red-gray color that her eyes were all over its scales. Wait, it had scales? Robin rubbed her eyes, then looked at the creature still wagging its back end. It was a dragon, a baby dragon, with scales the color of her eyes. It licked her face, then went back to the hall of her house. How had the kid even gotten in. There was no doggy door in her home, nor had she heard anyone come home. The last time anyone could open the door and close it without her noticing was long ago, five years ago...
Robin got off of her bed and walked back to her bedroom door, forgetting the bat still in her hand. Stepping outside into the hall, she saw the young dragon waiting for her. It looked up at her with eyes the color of a clear, mountain day, blue sky. She now noticed that its horns were red and how it kept looking at her like it knew exactly who she was, and that it had known her its entire life. Robin felt the same about it, she wasn't actually sure as to why though. Eyes followed the young beast as it walked out of the hall into her living room. Robin felt as if she was being led somewhere in her own home, almost as if she could sense the dragon's intentions. She had to shake her head of the thought, since humans couldn't sense the intention of a dragon, unless somehow connected, whether physically, mentally, or spiritually, at least, as far as she was aware.
Her grip tightening on the bat as she walked down her hallway. After almost reaching the end, she heard two voices and saw two very different shadows. One was human, the other was, what appeared to be, draconian. Could the day get any weirder? As the thought went by, a man came into the hallway. Although older, and with a bit of stubble, Robin could tell it was her brother, Michael. There was something different about him however, his attitude had seemed to change. It was no longer relaxed, as it once had been. Now it was stiff, attentive, and seriously in need of a good tackle hug. Sadly, she would have to wait until she was outside for that, since she was now to big to just run and jump at him.
It didn't take long for the two to finally notice her there, especially since the baby dragon kept going back and forth between her and at least one of them. She saw the surprise in her brother's eyes. She was no longer a girl, she was a nineteen year old female. The look had said it all, since it had gone from surprise, to a 'Must be on guard for my sister' kind of look. She was beginning to get a better understanding of that brother complex her best friend, Stacy, had talked about. That still didn't help her feel better about the draconian figure in her home. She wasn't sure what to think about that and the fact that there was a baby dragon hopping from her to him. Eventually introductions we're going to have to be done, and she knew this was not typical of Michael to bring in a total stranger, then again, she probably didn't know, since she had already seen the change in stance the moment she had seen him.
What did surprise her was the hug Michael gave her shortly after the initial shock of seeing his sister all grown up. That was definitely not something she thought Michael would do after returning from the army. What happened next also came as a surprise to her. This day was probably going to be full of them, if it continued like this.
"Stalvor, this is my younger sister. The one that I told you was a little stinker when she was younger"

"I was never a stinker. What has happened to my brother and where have you taken him?" Robin smiled. She knew he was teasing her, just like siblings do. At least she knew the new guy's name now.

"Pleasure to meet you, Miss...?"

"Robin, my name is Robin. No need for Miss in front."

"Robin." He bowed his head at her, making Robin look at her brother, who just raised an eyebrow. Robin bowed her head back.

"Robin," Michael was speaking to her now, "I have something to tell you, that mom and dad know, and probably would have told you, if I hadn't joined the war. The only thing is, I can't tell you here. That's why Stalvor is here. He's going to help us to the spot through his camp, acting as if we're prisoners of highest priority."

After it set in, Robin knew, she may never see home again.

"How long do I have?" Robin's eyes were looking strait at the window.

"As long as you need. A good week at least, since I'll be here at least that long." Micheal saw the look in her eye, and understood. "Write to whom ever you feel you need to, talk to who you feel you need to. I'll talk to mom and dad about it, and let them know. They can let everyone else know. And perhaps one day, you'll be able to see them all again."

"Most of my friends are away at college, except for Stacy. She decided to stay and do online colleges. As for me, I haven't decided yet. I'll talk to Stacy, but the others I'm not as close to, so I'll have to write letters anyhow."

"Tell me what?"

"Stacy!!!"

"I admit, it's not very common to see a draconian in your home, but it isn't the first time I've seen it."

"What are you talking about?"

Micheal walked up to his sister.

"It will be revealed later, and Stacy can come if she wants to, since she already knows."

"Michael Evertall, you better give me something useful soon, or me leaving with you isn't going to happen."

Michael finally took off his bag, placing it on the couch and pulled out a small box.

"I've been holding on to this for a while, since I was the one who was supposed to give it to you. If you can figure out how to open it before I have to absolutely leave again, I will tell you everything I know, but until then, I really can't answer your questions without it risking something major, which could change the path of the war from where we hope it will go."

"And where exactly is that?"

"Most of those like Stalvor and I want the war to end peacefully, and joined for reasons other then the war or just protecting our home. That is often what we say though, so that not many will figure out our true purpose." Micheal put up his hand to stop Robin from another question. "A purpose I can't reveal until we're away from here."

Robin nodded, then looked at Stacy. If she had to consider someone besides her brother a best friend, it would probably be her. Stacy had short, blond hair, aqua eyes, and beautiful red lips. She was the kind of girl that many guys in their old high school probably wished they were dating, or at least Robin thought so. And yet, Stacy never got asked to a dance, or on a date. Robin had heard a rumor once that Stacy had been dating someone older and got to go to all the dances at the college, but Robin knew better. Stacy was just too beautiful for her own good.

"Stacy, would you like to come?"

"If it means keeping you out of trouble, then yes, I would."

"Somehow, I think you'd be the one in trouble with a capitol T." Robin sighed. "I guess we better get started on our letters to our friends."

Stacy nodded. "Other then you, I only have one more best friend, so that shouldn't take long."

Robin blinked before she realized who Stacy was talking about. "Abbey?"

Stacy nodded. "I'll leave you to it then. What should I bring along?"

Micheal answered. "Everything you would need if you lived on your own."

Stacy smiled. "Sounds like camping. I've got a lot of clothes to clean through, so I'll make sure to do what I can, and Robin" Stacy looked back at her friend.

"What?" Robin had a guess that would come out of Stacy's mouth.

"Go ahead and bring all your favorite things for camping, but bring at least one nice pair of shoes and dress that match." Stacy had a scary look on her face showing she was serious.

"How about I leave it all up in my closet, then you can help me choose the most fashionable one."

"Knowing you, we might have to go to the mall for that."

"You would love that, wouldn't you."

"Yes, I quite would, and if I drag you along, you won't be able to say no."

"Oh dear, I'm in trouble. I guess I better go slow if I don't wanna go to the mall"

"You'll have no choice. We go this Friday." With that Stacy was out of the house and crossing the street back to hers.

"I'm doomed." Robin sunk into one of the couches in the living room, with the baby dragon coming and snuggling right next to her. "What is his name anyhow?"

Stalvor shook his head. "You're actually the first one he's warmed up that quickly too. You'll have to ask him. Just touch his forehead and ask him."

Robin looked at Stalvor as if he was certified for an asylum, but did as she had been told. Placing her hand on the baby's forehead, she asked him his name. The baby stirred enough to look straight at Robin, then answered her question. She wasn't sure at first, but then she heard a small whisper.

"My name is Daimon."

"Nice name. Mind if I tell the two hooligans behind me?"

Daimon shook his head, then went back to the snuggling position he had been in before Robin had touched his head.

"His name is Daimon"

Stalvor was the one replied. "Well, there's one mystery solved."

Robin looked at him. "Just one?"

Stalvor nodded "Amongst several more to come probably."

Robin put her head down. "In that case, I guess I better get started." She picked up Daimon, stood up, then went back to her room. This was going to be a long week, and it was still only Monday.
